What We Do

Volunteers

FareShare provides positive sustainable volunteering opportunities, enabling and empowering volunteers to fully participate in the project and local community by developing 'on the job' work experience, personal and social skills - especially targeting the unemployed, homeless and other disadvantaged and socially excluding groups.

We offer accredited and vocational training in Food Hygiene (CIEH), Manual Lifting and Handling (SIGTA), Effective Communications (including Telephone techniques, written and face-to-face communications), and Job Skill Developement. This vocational training with enable our volunteers to develop skills and qualifications more relevant to the work place and move into employment and also meet some of the skills shortages in the city.

Liam

"I have volunteered for FareShare for over a year now , I got involved with FareShare through a treatment centre I was in (St Thomas Fund) due to drug misuse which was a big part of my life. Fareshare has allowed me to get back into the working environment and allowed me to give a bit back to society from which I took from for so many years. It is satisfying to deliver food etc to charities and hostels for the homeless as I know what it is like to be on the receiving end. Thanks to the staff at FareShare I am now in a position to go back to full time employment."

Roy Prater (Rotary Club member)

volunteer1"Since a representative of FareShare came and spoke to our Rotary club (Brighton and Hove Soiree) about three years ago I have been a volunteer driver. Initially I was alone but more and more members showed interest in helping so that now I drive only once a month or so. I thoroughly enjoy driving for Fareshare and meeting and working with the other volunteers, be they recovering addicts or lawbreakers - or even Rotarians. I have been privileged to work with FareShare and I hope that I have made some small contribution to helping those much less fortunate than I."

Community Food Members

We deliver food to local charities and organisations working in and around Brighton and Hove. The food we supply contributes to over 13000 meals a week for homeless and volnerable people. This food encourages disadvantaged eople into an environment where they can receive appropriate support. It also enables these other organisations to reinvest funds into other services such as housing advice and training, whic help their clients to rebiuld their lives. Between them these agencies provide over 1300 clients a week with food and support services. Based on our latest community member surveys the food deliveries from FareShare contribute between 40%-100% of the food budgets of these agencies.
